Texas. US President Donald Trump has reiterated his threat to impose 250 percent customs duties on both countries to prevent military conflict between India and Pakistan. He says that out of the eight wars he claimed to have ended, five were resolved by commercial pressure.
At the election meeting held on Wednesday in Corpus Christi, Texas, he said that he had warned the prime ministers of both countries that they would not allow trade with the US if the war continued. He claims that there was a ceasefire after that pressure and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that he had saved at least 30 million lives.
India, on the other hand, has been rejecting the claim that external mediation has a role to play in stopping the conflict. According to India, a ceasefire was reached during Operation Sindoor after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations urged the Indian counterpart. India launched the operation on May 7 and stopped it on May 10 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Trump has also claimed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for resolving eight wars. He has been criticizing the choice since the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on October 9 that the 2026 prize will be awarded to South African jurist Navi Pillay.
