Parsa. The chemical fertilizers purchased from India for winter crops have started to enter through Birganj crossing. Out of the urea and DAP procured through the government-government (GTUG) process, 18,715 tonnes of fertilizers have been received by the provincial office of the agricultural materials company in Birganj.

According to Dinesh Sharma, Head of Agricultural Materials Company Regional Office, Birgunj, 11,630 tonnes of 30,000 tonnes of urea and 7,085 tonnes of DAP out of 20,000 tonnes of fertilizer purchased from India have entered Birgunj. He said that these two types of fertilizers are being imported for one and a half months.

Out of the total 50,000 tonnes of urea and DAP procured by the government through the JTUG process, 38 percent of the fertilizer will be received by the Birgunj Regional Office. Sharma said that the remaining fertilizer will be provided to Biratnagar and Bhairahawa regional offices. Fertilizer allocated for Bhairahawa office is also being imported from Birganj route. He informed that arrangements have been made to send the manure brought to Birgunj to the relevant provincial office.

The company said that the fertilizer being imported now will be distributed for the next winter crop. Sharma said that since the demand for urea and DAP will increase especially during wheat and oilseed crops, preparations are being made to distribute fertilizers accordingly.

According to the company, import is given priority to provide necessary fertilizers to the farmers as the time for planting winter crops is approaching. It is expected that the fertilizers purchased from India through GTU process will help in the supply of chemical fertilizers required for wheat and oilseed cultivation.
