Kathmandu. After Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won the presidential election in Brazil, the defeated candidate Flavio Bolsonaro rejected the results and said that he would demand the cancellation of the election. He announced a legal challenge based on the decision of the Supreme Court to extend the voting time by two hours.

Lula got 51.79 and Flavio got 48.21 percent of the votes. Lula won by a margin of about 4.4 million votes. With this, he will become the president of Brazil for the fourth time. His new tenure will start from January 5, 2027.

The decision to extend voting time is in dispute

When the voting period was about to end, Supreme Court Judge Cristiano Zanin ordered that the time be extended from 5pm to 7pm. Lula’s election campaign filed a petition saying that it was difficult for voters to reach polling stations due to limited public transportation in various cities.

A dispute arose with that. Flavio said that the election results cannot be accepted, alleging that the rules were changed in the middle of the voting.

Speaking in the capital Brasilia, Flavio said that he will proceed with the legal process to cancel the election. He declared that he would challenge the decision to extend the voting time in the court.

Flavio’s challenge on whether the decision to extend the voting time had an effect on the final result has yet to be decided through the legal process.

Lula promised to work for all citizens after the victory. As the controversy over the election results escalates, the court hearings in the coming days and the reactions of both sides may affect the political situation in Brazil.
