Kathmandu. The former president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has admitted that his party was defeated by the student-led movement in the parliamentary elections.

Admitting defeat, the right-wing populist leader Vuchic said that even though the final result did not come, they lost. It is estimated that the student leadership can win up to 140 seats in the 250-member parliament.

After Vuchic accepted defeat, supporters of the student movement celebrated in various cities. According to the news, celebrations were held in the streets of various cities, including the capital Belgrade, after the election results were announced.

According to preliminary data released by the Election Commission of Serbia, there was a record turnout in the voting. Vucic announced the election amid two years of protests that began after the roof of the railway station collapsed in the city of Novi Sad, killing 16 people.

Buchich has been president for two terms. He led his party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), with a plan to return to the post of Prime Minister, which he left in 2017, after failing to become a candidate for a third term.
