Paris, France. The French Interior Ministry said on Sunday that police arrested 1,031 people from protests across France on Friday and Saturday.
It is said that 53 policemen were injured in the clash. Dozens of people were arrested on Saturday after violence broke out in major French cities against the high cost of living.
This is the second consecutive weekend of unrest in France. It is seen that this violence, which broke out during the presidential elections in the country in April and May, may also affect the next leadership election in France.
This election, which will be held after two terms of President Emmanuel Macron, will choose his successor.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the police controlled 75 arsons during Saturday’s protests and 24 shops were looted.
The ministry said in a statement that some investigations have been started. Detailed information about the investigation has not been given. After the clashes subsided, the cities were said to be “calm” on Saturday night, but the protesters said they would announce more of their events and move on.
The ministry’s statement on Sunday did not mention how many protesters were injured. On Saturday night, Interior Minister Laurent Núñez said that two people were seriously injured, one in Toulouse and the other in Clermont-Ferrand.
According to the Toulouse Prefecture administration under the Ministry of Interior, a 20-year-old man has been seriously injured in the hand.
A street medic who treated the protesters, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP, “The young man lost ‘a few fingers’ from the bullet on his right hand. The prefecture of the Clermont-Ferrand region said one person was injured in the hand, but no fingers were lost.”
French regional daily La Nouvelle République reported that one person in Poitiers suffered an injury to his left eye. A picture of a person covering his face with his hands has also been published.
