Kathmandu. Venezuela’s main opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado has returned to her country after more than 10 months of exile.

“I am here, with you,” Machado announced her return to her country through social network X on Sunday morning. Opposition leaders have also confirmed his return.

Exiled former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia welcomed his return, calling it an important day for Venezuela’s sovereign voice and political process. He also said that he will return home soon. The opposition parties have published a picture of supporters welcoming Machado in the Santa Rosa Church in Lara state.

US President Donald Trump has said that he is not aware of Machado’s return to his country. Machado went to Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize last December. After that she was in exile.

A month after Machado left the country, the US deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Since then, the United States has been advancing the process of democratic transition and political reconciliation together with the acting government of Venezuela. Although some senior leaders of the opposition participated in this process, Machado and González Urrutia were not included.

Dinora Figuerera, who is leading the talks with the opposition coalition, explained Machado’s return to the country as the result of the political reconciliation process that began after Maduro’s ouster. CNN
