Kathmandu. The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) has given instructions to the government and its own parliamentary party on matters ranging from distortions, inconsistencies and dispute resolution seen in the courts to the arrest of journalists.

The secretariat meeting held at the party central office Vanasthali on Saturday has decided to proceed with the necessary process from the parliament for the overall restructuring of the justice sector. Announcing the decision of the meeting, party spokesperson Jagdish Kharel said that necessary instructions have been given to the parliamentary party for this.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kharel clarified that according to the principle of separation of powers, the issue of restructuring of the judicial sector will be taken up not only by the courts and the government but also by the parliament as the constitutional path is the parliament. When asked about the impeachment, he said that it will be decided only after the process enters the parliament through the parliamentary party.

Similarly, the meeting instructed the government to investigate the incident of plainclothes police entering the newsroom and arresting journalists and to take action against the culprits. The party has also requested the government to ensure press freedom.

Spokesperson Kharel said that the incident of arresting a journalist and police entering the newsroom on the basis of writing the news is wrong.

“While the Prime Minister’s Office is also saying that it is not involved in the incident that happened yesterday, the meeting has clearly instructed the government to investigate why, how and who did it and to take action against the culprits,” he said.

He urged the government not to make any compromise while taking action against the guilty and to show results by taking prompt action. Kharel reiterated the party’s commitment to press freedom while mentioning that the RSVP will embrace social democracy.
