Kathmandu. Brazilian left-wing president Luiz Inacio Lula. Silva was re-elected for a fourth term amid stiff competition. The election officials officially announced his victory, according to the BBC.
It is said to be the first case since the restoration of democracy in 1988 that a candidate who lost in the first round came back and won the presidential election in the second round.
51.75 percent of the vote for Lula
According to Brazil’s Electoral Commission, Lula received 51.75 percent of the votes with more than 98 percent of the votes counted. Flavio Bolsonaro got 48.25 percent of the votes. Amid tough competition, Lula won the decisive lead in the second round.
In the first round of elections held earlier this month, former president Jair Bolsonaro’s son and right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro won about two percent of the vote. However, Lula defeated him in the second round.
In the first round of elections, Bolsonaro won 47 percent of the total votes cast, while Lula won 45 percent. The 80-year-old Lula linked the election to national sovereignty and said that the people should choose between the one who kisses the Brazilian flag and the one who kisses the American flag. BBC
