Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has ordered the immediate release of manpower businessman Ravin Gurung.
Gurung, who was arrested among the directors of 25 manpower companies selected to send Nepali workers to Malaysia, was detained with an arrest permit from an agency that had no jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court declared the detention illegal.
The joint bench of Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Tek Prasad Dhungana on Wednesday issued a writ regarding Gurung’s detention and ordered him to be released from prison.
According to the summary order of the Supreme Court, Gurung was being investigated for an offense under Section 54 of the Foreign Employment Act, 2064. The Supreme Court is of the opinion that while the foreign employment department has the right to take action and punish the crime, the deadline has been extended by approving the arrest warrant from the foreign employment tribunal.
