Colombo. The government has decided to close all schools across the country after heavy rains in Sri Lanka due to the indirect effects of cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’ in the Bay of Bengal.

The Ministry of Education has said that the school has been closed on Tuesday to ensure the safety of students and school staff in view of the current weather conditions. However, the ministry has clarified that the practical examination of beauty related subjects under the General Education Certificate (Normal Level) examination will be conducted according to the predetermined program.

Due to the indirect effect of the storm, heavy rain has been falling in various areas of Sri Lanka in recent days. As the risk of floods and landslides increased with the rain, warnings have been issued to be cautious in many areas of the country. – Xinhua
