Kathmandu. The government has decided to form a working group for the promotion of medical service tourism with the aim of developing the country as a regional ‘medical hub’.
The meeting held at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to form a working group for the development and promotion of medical services tourism and proceed with the work soon.
The secretaries of the relevant ministries and directors and representatives of private hospitals participated in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Walendra Shah’s health advisor Jagdish Prasad Agarwal.
In the meeting, there was a discussion on organizing medical service tourism for foreign patients who come to Nepal to get quality and accessible treatment services. For this, there was also a discussion on building the necessary regulatory structure, setting standards for hospital quality and patient safety, and arranging medical visas for foreign patients and their assistants.
The development of medical service tourism will help not only in earning foreign currency, but also in reducing the need for Nepali citizens to go abroad for treatment and strengthening specialist services within the country. In order to establish Nepal as a reliable destination for medical services tourism, the government has prioritized necessary policy and institutional reforms.
