Kathmandu. There has been a heated argument between the representatives of the United States and Cuba at the United Nations. After US Ambassador Mike Waltz made serious accusations against Cuba, the delegation including Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno RodrÃguez Parrilla objected.
While speaking at the United Nations, American Ambassador Waltz accused that thousands of homosexuals, Christians, Cubans of African origin and other citizens were sent to concentration camps during the regime of the former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro. “The same government took away their property and made a profit by forcing them to work,” he said.
He also alleged that Havana, the capital of Cuba, is trying to mislead the world about the events that happened in the country in the past. “We know what happened at that time and today we have come to tell the world about it,” he said.
While the American ambassador was speaking, members of the Cuban delegation stood up and objected. After they demanded the withdrawal of the American ambassador’s statement, there was an uproar in the meeting for some time. At that time, Waltz had to stop his speech.
Then Waltz addressed the president and commented on the behavior of the delegation. He said, “I hope, Mr. President, everyone is listening to the delegation now.” Imagine what would happen if someone asked such questions in Havana, not in a room full of ambassadors and cameras. Think what will happen to those people when such threats and obstacles are seen here too.
There has been political and diplomatic tension between the US and Cuba for a long time. The latest incident at the United Nations has brought the dispute between the two countries back to the surface. BBC
