Kathmandu. The Department of Animal Services has said that action will be taken against the concerned businessmen if they sell and distribute birds such as chickens, ducks, and ducks infected with bird flu.
Urging not to play with the health of the public, the spokesperson of the department, Dr. Mukul Upadhyay informed that if infected birds are found to be sold in the market, strict action will be taken as per the law. Since last March, the bird flu virus that has spread in 11 districts of the country is in danger of changing its form, so the department has instructed to take precautions.
In order to control the spread of the disease, the team of technicians is active in the infected areas of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchok, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan and Nawalparasi, he informed that high vigilance has been adopted to prevent the disease from spreading elsewhere. As ‘Rapid Response Team’ has been mobilized in the respective districts, some districts are in the process of being brought under control.
The department has asked to take special precautions as there is a risk of spreading the disease to humans when dead chickens are thrown randomly and infected birds are destroyed. According to the department, about 7 lakh birds, 11 lakh eggs and 3 lakh kilos of grain have been destroyed in 11 districts where bird flu has been confirmed, including Kathmandu Valley.
According to the spokesperson of the department, Dr. Upadhyay, since the bird flu vaccine has not been developed effectively, there is no option to destroy birds and bird products as soon as the infection appears. It is said that through the district administration office of the affected area, details are being collected to assess the destroyed birds and collect the bond and provide compensation to the farmers of the respective districts.
