London. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has formally apologized for an estimated 185,000 babies born to unmarried mothers who were forced to adopt or adopt. He called it a ‘stain in the country’s history’.

He apologized to the children who had to be separated from their mothers, saying that this incident was systematically interwoven in local bodies, voluntary and religious organizations, health and social services in England and Wales from 1949 to 1976.

“We are deeply saddened by the mothers who were deemed unfit, who were prevented from caring for the children they so desperately wanted, and who have carried this loss for decades,” Starmer said in a speech to the UK parliament.

The Prime Minister praised the survivors who campaigned for forgiveness, saying they had “shown extraordinary courage to share their painful experiences and have repeatedly fought for the truth”.

“What happened to the abandoned children, thousands of mothers, children and families, should never have happened,” he said after meeting a group of survivors at the Prime Minister’s Office in Downing Street.

He said, “This is a disgrace in our history. Many young, helpless and helpless mothers were forced to lose their children through coercion, threats or confusion.”

“The young mothers were told that they had done immoral things and that their children could live a beautiful life without them. But it became a lifelong pain for them and it had a huge impact. He said, “The state takes responsibility for the system it funded and legalized, which made such practices possible. I sincerely apologize for this systemic failure.”
