Cairo. Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing nearly 1,200 civilians. The next day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas.

This started a new series of wars in the Gaza Strip of Palestine controlled by Hamas. Thursday marks 1,000 days since the war in Gaza began. And the general public has to pay the price. During this period, although both sides have repeatedly called for a ceasefire, no effect has been seen.

The fate of more than two million Palestinians in Gaza remains uncertain. A large number of people are forced to live among the ruins. The number of displaced people is also large. The last time on October 10, 2025, negotiations between Hamas and Israel were held under the mediation of Egypt and the United States.

At that time, it was agreed that Hamas would give up its weapons and that Israel would withdraw its troops from the occupied territory. Similarly, there was an agreement to release Palestinians held captive by Israel and Israelis held captive by Hamas. The two sides also agreed on increasing humanitarian assistance in Gaza Strip.

Similarly, there was an agreement to make a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. However, conditions other than the formation of a board under the leadership of US President Donald Trump for the exchange of prisoners and the reconstruction of Gaza were not met.

The Israeli army, which has taken control of almost half of the territory in Gaza, is constantly expanding it. His goal is to capture about 70 percent of the land.

Few people can enter or leave Gaza. “There is still a lot of work to be done to bring Gaza back to normalcy.” However, we have not yet reached that stage,” Nicolas von Arkus, regional director of the International Committee of the Red Cross, said this week.

Israeli attacks have decreased since the ceasefire took effect. However, they have not stopped. Attacks have been going on almost daily. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 1,053 Palestinians have died since the start of the ceasefire until last Tuesday.

More than 350 names of women and children are included in this list. Just a few days ago, a teenage girl who was going to school and a mother along with her 1-year-old daughter died in the attack.

Where is the cease-fire they keep saying? They should be ashamed,’ said a Palestinian woman, Wisal Abu Khater. She said that instead of helping the people of Gaza, the Arab countries are busy watching the World Cup football matches.

According to the ministry, more than 3,400 people have been injured since the ceasefire. The ministry operates under the control of the Hamas leadership and its records are generally regarded as reliable by UN agencies and independent experts.

The ministry does not publish separate details of civilians and fighters. But among those who lost their lives, a large number of the dead were women and children.

The Israeli military has been claiming that it will target Hamas and other militants. On October 7, 2023, about 251 people were taken hostage in an attack that killed 1200 people in southern Israel led by Hamas. After the ceasefire, both sides released the prisoners.

The body of the deceased has also been handed over. Some of the hostages have made public the details of their abuses. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, a total of 73,066 Palestinians have died since 2023 until last Tuesday as a result of Israel’s retaliation.

According to Nikolai Mladenov, the top diplomat overseeing the ceasefire, the implementation of the ceasefire agreements has stalled due to complex issues such as the disarmament of Hamas.

US President Donald Trump formed the “Board of Peace” in Gaza under his leadership on January 17, 2026. The goal of this board is to build a state-of-the-art city in Gaza by bringing billions of investments. But due to the ongoing tension between Israel and Hamas, its implementation has become uncertain. Recently, this board has not announced any program.

After the disarmament of Hamas, a new administration will be formed in Gaza, international security forces will be mobilized to assist in security and reconstruction work, etc., were mentioned in the ceasefire agreement. Hamas has not completely rejected disarmament. However, he has indicated that he wants to keep some weapons with him.

Israel itself is also in trouble because of the ongoing wars in Gaza and then in West Asia. In recent days, Lebanon’s Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, and Iran itself have also targeted Israel.

Iran’s armed proxy groups have been showing solidarity with the Palestinians. On February 28, Netanyahu, along with the US, launched a joint attack on Iran. After that, Lebanon’s Hezbollah also attacked Israel. This rekindled the conflict in Lebanon. Now the Israeli army has occupied a large area in Lebanon. However, neither front is completely peaceful.

The increasing death of Israeli soldiers, continued attacks on the Israeli border with Lebanon, and international opposition to the attack on Gaza have tarnished Netanyahu’s image. Parliamentary elections are being held in Israel at the end of October this year.

According to surveys, 60 percent of the people do not want to see Netanyahu repeat as Prime Minister. The attack on October 7th was due to the weakness of the Netanyahu government, the government did not even set up a commission to investigate the security weaknesses, and the services and concessions enjoyed by Netanyahu’s radical right-wing power partners have angered the people.

Palestinians in Gaza say their patience has reached its limit. Some of them are living in Tripalmuni, which does not even have basic facilities. Some are taking shelter in the ruins of buildings destroyed by bombs. Along with this, on a daily basis, they are suffering from the sound of Israeli drones and attacks.

Humanitarian aid supplies such as medicine and fuel were expected to increase dramatically after the war. However, aid groups and other stakeholders say that is not the case now. All of Gaza’s border crossings are still tightly controlled by Israel. In some cases, they are even closed completely. The United Nations reported last month that 17 hospitals are still not operational.
