Kathmandu. Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) MP Som Sharma has demanded a clear answer from the government regarding when and by which legal process the savers of Image Cooperative will get their savings back.
Participating in the discussion on the ‘Cooperatives Act (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ in the House of Representatives on Thursday, he said that his main concern is the legal assurance of refund of innocent savers.
He said, “Our interest is only related to legal assurance that innocent savers will get their savings back.” Baglung-based Image Cooperative had more than two billion rupees of savers’ savings. About 80 percent of them have already been tamsuk with the basis that the money of the savers will be paid from the related property. But the related property has been frozen and the chairman of the cooperative, Dev Kumar Nepali, is currently in the Baglung District Jail in a case related to money laundering and organized crime. In such a situation, the saver has only one question—now through which legal process and when will our savings come back?’
MP Sharma asked the Minister of Cooperatives to clarify whether there is a clear legal provision in the Bill for savers in the same situation as Image Cooperative to get their savings back from the seized property without being affected by the court process.
He said, “I would like to humbly request the minister, if there is any clear legal provision in this bill for savers in situations like Image Cooperatives to get their savings back from the seized property without being affected by the court process, please explain it to us clearly.”
