Kathmandu. WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has started its advance reservation process, preparing to introduce a new username feature that allows users to be contacted without showing their phone number.

According to the company, this feature will reach users worldwide in a phased manner in the coming months. Currently, users can save their favorite username in advance. Which will come into use after the facility is fully implemented.

WhatsApp said in its official blog that this update was brought with the aim of increasing the privacy of the users. Especially in conversations with strangers, large group chats and businesses, the phone number will no longer be visible.

The company says, ‘Giving out a phone number when meeting a new person can seem like a big deal. So now phone number will not be mandatory for just talking.

Keeping security in mind, the company has introduced an additional security system called ‘Username Key’. For this, not only a username but also an additional code will be required to contact someone.

Businesses and creators will also get the facility to save the same username used on platforms under their meta platform, such as Instagram and Facebook. The company said that this feature will be expanded in a phased manner and when it becomes available, an in-app notification will be sent to the user. -ANI
