Kathmandu. The ‘4th Kendrabindu Education Excellence Award 2083’ has been grandly completed by Kendrabindu Online Media Pvt Ltd. Chairman of Education, Health and Information Technology Committee Dr. Ojashwi Sherchan was the chief guest during a special ceremony organized at ‘The Plaza’ in Lalitpur on Tuesday.

Before the award distribution, two important panel discussions on the current situation, challenges and future direction of the education sector were also conducted in this program sponsored by S Institute of Management.

In the first session of the program, there was an in-depth discussion focusing on the topic of ‘Private Sector Investment in Education’. At the beginning of the session, Mahashram Sharma, the former chairman of the National Examination Board and an academic associated with Kathmandu University, and Umesh Shrestha, the former minister of state for health and the former chairman of Hisan and Pabson, gave their views as key-note speakers. Shrestha is also the institutional chairman of Little Angels Education Group. They emphasized that the state should not ignore the contribution made by the private sector in education and should create an investment friendly environment.

Later, in the panel discussion moderated by advocate and engineer Umesh Rupakheti, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of Planning and Monitoring Branch of Ministry of Education Shiv Kumar Sapkota, President of Hisan and Director of Himalayan White House IB World School Yuvraj Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank Manoj Gyawali and Principal and Director of S Institute of Management Dr. Ashish Tiwari participated as a panelist. During the discussion, the speakers made their logical statements about the security of private sector investment in education, the role of banks and financial sector and consistency between government policies.

Similarly, the second panel discussion of the program was focused on the topic ‘Can Nepal be made an education hub?’ The role of moderator of the session was played by Sesharaj Bhattarai, outgoing president of ICAN.

In this session, the Chairman of Education, Health and Information Committee Dr. Ojashwi Sherchan, former chairman of Pabson and founder of Radiant School DK Dhungana and founding president of Gate College Khem Lakai debated as panelists. During the debate, the participants pointed out the great potential of attracting foreign students by strengthening the foundation of higher education and technical education in Nepal. For this, they concluded that policy reforms and practical education are needed today.

During the panel discussion, the participants of the program asked the panelists direct questions about the quality of education and private-public partnership. Overall, the award program not only encouraged the best, but also provided a platform for robust intellectual debate to improve Nepal’s education policy.

In the program, two stalwart personalities who have worked till the end of their lives to enlighten the educational world and lay the foundation of quality education have been honored with the title of this year’s ‘Projjwal Nakshatra 2083 for the Education Sector’. Among those honored are Sudurpaschim University’s first founding vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Bikram Rai is the head of Jairaj Awasthi and Prasadi Academy.

Prof. Dr. Jayaraj Awasthi:Born in Darchula, a remote district in the Far West, Prof. Dr. Jayaraj Awasthi’s academic journey is a living inspiration in itself. Dr. who has spent his life teaching and researching English subject for a long time in Tribhuvan University. Nepali education world can never forget the quality of Awasthi. The historic role he played as the first founding vice-chancellor of Sudurpaschim University, rising above the confines of the classroom, is unparalleled.

Vikram Rai:Prasadi Academy, who has been continuously working round the clock in the education sector for the past 29 years, is the principal of Rai Secondary Education. The honor was given in remembrance of the merits they have achieved in improving the quality of education at the university and school level, starting with the formulation of the national level educational policy.

KMC Secondary School (KMC) in Bagbazar, Kathmandu and Trinity International School in Dillibazar have been declared the best on the basis of academic results and contribution by the National Examination Board, Sanothimi.
