Kathmandu. Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Minister Geeta Chaudhary has said that the approval of various projects proposed by Nepal from the Adaptation Fund is an important achievement for reducing the effects of climate change and enhancing adaptation capacity.

The 47th board meeting of the Adaptation Fund approved the three projects proposed by Nepal for increasing the capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change.

She said the approval of all three projects in Nepal is an important achievement when the demand for financial resources for climate adaptation is increasing worldwide and the resources of adaptation funds are limited.

Minister Chaudhary said that this achievement will help in managing the financial burden on the environment sector. In addition, he said, it will contribute significantly to reducing the risks and problems of various natural disasters seen in Nepal recently and to reduce the damage caused by the effects of climate change.

Green Koshi project is one of the approved projects. A financial support of 99 million 27 thousand 750 US dollars has been offered for this project, which aims to protect the ecosystem and enhance climate resilience in the Koshi region through nature-based solutions.

The implementing body of this project is National Nature Conservation Fund (NTNC). Minister Chaudhary, who is also the chairman of NTNC, said that Nepal is receiving international support not only through this project but also from other sectors.

Similarly, the ‘Strengthening Adaptation and Flood and Landslide Early Warning for the Hindu Kush Himalaya’ project has been approved with the aim of strengthening the flood and landslide early warning system in the Himalayan region and increasing the climate adaptation capacity.

The International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICMOD) is the implementing agency for this project.

The third project is focused on building a sustainable community through nature-friendly climate action based on local leadership in Lumbini province. 4.998 thousand 707 USD financial support has been offered for this project. Its implementing body is ‘UN Habitat’.

Minister Chaudhary expected that all the three projects would contribute to the protection of the ecological system, the strengthening of the flood and landslide warning system and the enhancement of the climate resilience of the local community.
