Kathmandu. Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chairman of the Tribhuvan University (TRI) Service Commission, Kishore Thapa.
Today, Minister of Education Pokharel, who is also the vice-chancellor of the university, administered the oath to Thapa, who was recently appointed to the Tertiary Service Commission, at the ministry in Singhdarbar.
Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Valendra Shah appointed Kishore Thapa, a former secretary to the Government of Nepal and a senior urban planner, as the chairman of the Service Commission.
Similarly, in the presence of Minister of Education Pokharel, the newly appointed member of the Service Commission Prof. Dr. Regina Maskey was administered the oath of office and confidentiality by Thapa, Chairman of the Tertiary Service Commission.
Giving a brief response after the oath, President Thapa expressed his commitment to fulfill the responsibilities of the Tertiary Service Commission with fearlessness, fairness and honesty, to develop the morale of the professors and staff working in the Tertiary, increase professional efficiency and work for the institutional reform of the university.
President Thapa expressed his belief that during his service period, the University Service Commission and the university as a whole will work round the clock for the advancement and progress of the university and to face the new challenges of the 21st century by reflecting on the glorious history of the university. He also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Nepal for giving him the honorable position of Chairman of Tertiary Services Commission of the country.
It is said that both the appointments have been made with the aim of making the Service Commission of Tribhuvan University efficient, transparent and friendly to qualified personnel.
After studying, evaluating and interviewing the applications received for the post of Service Commission Chairman, the chairman recommendation committee formed under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Sasmit Pokharel, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, recommended the names of three persons to the Chancellor. Based on the same recommendation, Chancellor Shah appointed Thapa as the president.
The recommendation committee called for applications from interested and qualified persons for the post of Service Commission Chairman last May. The names of eligible candidates were recommended after evaluating the qualifications, experience, leadership ability and performance of the applications received according to the prescribed process.
Kishore Thapa, who is known as an architect and urban planner, has contributed to the civil service of the Government of Nepal for more than four decades in various responsibilities. He was working as a secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Secretariat of Water and Energy Commission. He played a leading role in the creation and implementation of important government policies and programs including National Housing Plan, National Urban Development Strategy, Technical Education and Vocational Training Policy, Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
