Kathmandu. A member of the House of Representatives has demanded the government to immediately establish a Nepali Consulate General or Diplomatic Mission in Bangalore, India.

Speaking at a special meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, he expressed grief over the death of Vijayraj Bhatt, a resident of Kedarsyun Rural Municipality-4, Bajhang, who was working at Chandrapur Apartment in Bangalore, India, and paid tribute to the deceased. Also, expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, he drew the attention of the Nepalese government to conduct a serious investigation of the incident and take necessary diplomatic initiatives.

He informed that the body of the deceased is currently at Surya City Police Office in Bangalore and said that the government should take the incident seriously.

The MP mentioned that more than two million Nepali workers, students, businessmen and professionals are living in various states of South India and said that they are facing various problems regarding citizenship, passport, labor disputes, legal aid, rescue, death and accident management, investment promotion and access to government services.

He urged the government to establish an official Consulate General or Diplomatic Mission of the Government of Nepal in Bangalore, which is a major economic and expatriate center of South India.

According to him, establishing such a mission is not only a matter of expanding diplomatic relations, but also a matter of ensuring the state’s responsibility and protection towards Nepali citizens abroad.

The parliamentarian stated that the Nepalis abroad should be respected not only as a means of sending remittances but as citizens who are partners in nation building and requested the government to immediately take the necessary diplomatic, administrative and policy initiatives to establish the Nepali Mission in Bangalore.

He said that the access of the state should reach the citizens and expressed the opinion that the situation where the citizens have to travel thousands of kilometers to get general services is not suitable for a democratic governance system. Also, he urged the government to implement the principle of “where there is a large presence of Nepali, there is an official presence of Nepal”.
