Kathmandu. British Council’s ‘Cultural Protection Fund’ has announced a new round of grant support for organizations working in the field of cultural heritage protection on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

Under this, financial assistance up to a maximum of 500,000 pounds (about 80 million Nepalese rupees) per organization will be provided for the protection and promotion of cultural heritages that are at risk of conflict and climate change.

This program aims to work in 17 countries of the world, including Nepal, focusing on community empowerment and preservation of historical heritage. Apart from Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan in South Asia as well as various countries in the Middle East, North Africa and East Africa are considered eligible for this grant.

In Nepal, various important Raithane art and culture conservation programs have been completed through this fund. In the past, through Janakpur Women’s Development Center, 50,000 pounds were donated to Maithil women’s murals and sculptures, and about 37,000 pounds were donated to Delpae-Icoms Nepal to protect the Himalayan heritage in She-Foksundo National Park.

Similarly, this fund has also provided financial support for the documentation of the endangered Kusunda language and culture through ‘Archive Nepal’ and for the preservation of the Raithane food culture of Nepal through the National Tribal Women’s Federation.

Interested organizations wishing to participate in this year’s grant process must submit their applications by Monday, July 20, 2026. Before applying, organizations are requested by the British Council to study the 2026 Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions available on the official website of the Cultural Protection Fund.
