Kathmandu. Switzerland has entered the last 16 after defeating Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32 under FIFA World Cup 2026. Switzerland scored one goal each in both halves of the match at BC Place Vancouver Stadium in Canada.
Brill Embolo and Dan Ndoye scored for Switzerland. In the first half, Brill Embolo scored a goal in the tenth minute to give Switzerland the lead. Mbolo scored through Johan Manzambi’s pass.
Dan Ndoye doubled the lead in the first minute of the second half for Switzerland, who took a one-goal lead in the first half. The winger, who plays for Nottingham Forest, scored within 48 seconds of the start of the second half.
In the 81st minute, Switzerland missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead. Fabian Ridder shot the ball from near the post and it went straight into the hands of the Algerian keeper. Switzerland will now play the winner of Saturday’s game between Colombia and Ghana in the last 16.
Algeria has become the fifth African team to exit from the round of 32. So far, while 6 African teams have played in the round of 32, only Morocco has managed to reach the last 16.
Along with Algeria, the journey to South Africa, Ivory Coast, DR Congo and Senegal has ended in the last 32. 10 teams from Africa played in the World Cup, 9 teams reached the knockout stage. Now Cape Verde, Egypt and Ghana have yet to play in the round of 32. Tunisia was eliminated from the group stage.
