Kathmandu. Information and Communication Minister Dr. Vikram Timilsina has asked the Film Development Board to do concrete work for the development of the film sector by making it a common organization of all film workers.
On the occasion of handing over the appointment letter to the newly appointed chairman of the board, Manish Pandit, he mentioned that the film workers have complained that the board could not be shared by all, and said that the film workers have great expectations from the present government.
“Movies are not made by the government, the government does not play a very big role in making movies”, Minister Dr. Timilsina said, “The government has to provide the right environment, give the right policy and encourage. The board should work solidly for the development of the film sector between the government and the filmmakers.”
He emphasized that the board should be made a board of all filmmakers by bringing out the understanding that the board is only for people belonging to a certain category or a certain range.
“When that adoption is established, it becomes easier to work and the support you get from the film industry also increases”, he said. Minister Dr. Timilsina said that the film sector is a matter of opportunities and challenges, and urged to work and maintain discipline in the first stage by protecting, preserving and maintaining responsibility within the organization so that the questions that have arisen there will not arise in the future.
Minister Dr. Timilsina mentioned that for the development of the film sector, along with budget and financial support, it is necessary to remove the small weaknesses seen in policy reforms and implementation. “Money is not everything, the government should work on policy and environment”, he said, “The government expects the board to do concrete work to contribute to the development of the film industry.”
He mentioned that the real test for the newly appointed Chairman Pandit has started now and wished his tenure to become exemplary in the history of the Board. He said that the film sector can achieve effective achievements if it can move forward through extensive consultation and dialogue while finding the path that the board could not take in the past.
On this occasion, Ravilal Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry and Chairman of the Board, Member of the Recommendation Committee, informed about the selection process. He said that there were a total of 12 applicants for the chairmanship of the board, and after going through various stages of presentation and interview, the names of the best three were recommended to the ministry.
