Kavrepalanchok. The construction of Sanga-Dhulikhel road of Kavrepalanchok under the Araniko highway has been accelerated.

Suryavinayak-Dhulikhel project said that since the entire road could not be widened within the additional one-year deadline, the construction has now been accelerated so that the main work can be completed.

Along with sewage management, new blackboards have been removed and new blackboards have been started in the Banepa market area for a few days. About 16 km stretch of road from Suryavinayak to Dhulikhel in Bhaktapur was divided into two sections as part of the six-lane work and the contract was signed.

According to the agreement signed on 27th November 2079 for the expansion of the eight kilometer road towards Sanga-Dhulikhel, it had to be completed on 25th November 2082. For that, Lama Construction Pvt Ltd took the contract for Rs.4 billion, five crore and 64 lakh, but after only 60% of the work was completed in the specified period, one more year was added.

The 15.8 km road from Suryavinayak to Sanga and from Sanga to Dhulikhel has been divided into two sections and the expansion work is underway. Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road project Chief Superintendent Engineer Vijaykumar Mahato said that the concerned builders have been instructed to complete the work of the project within the stipulated time. According to him, so far 74 percent physical progress has been made from Sanga to Dhulikhel towards Kavrepalanchok. Mahato says that 54 percent of the work has been done from Suryavinayak to Sanga towards Bhaktapur.

The road expansion towards Bhaktapur has been delayed due to the late contract agreement, so the project has seen little progress. Mahato informed that the first layer of the road has been blacked out on six lanes for three and a half kilometers towards Kavrepalanchok.

“Out of the 7.9 km road from Sanga to Dhulikhel, 6.5 km four lanes have been blacked with the first layer and now only one and a half km road towards Kavre is left to be blacked”, said Mahato. The contract with the builders of the Sanga-Dhulikhel section is due till 23rd of November, so the main work will be completed within the scheduled time if there are no difficulties.

According to the project, the work of ‘side structure’ from Suryavinayak to Sanga section has been almost completed. Mahato informed that the first level of black sheeting has been completed on one and a half km of six-lane road towards Bhaktapur, while the first level of black sheeting has been completed on one and a half km road in two lanes in Sanga underpass. The deadline for road expansion towards Bhaktapur is ending in February.

A contract was signed with Ashish Kumar Shrestha-Bandhan-Bhagwati JV for the 7.3 km road of Suryabinayak-Sanga section in December 2079 for Rs 3.88 crore 93 lakh including VAT.

According to Mahato, the construction company can complete the main work within the deadline and by adding some time for the remaining work, the entire road work can be completed within the month of June 2084. Although the road section expansion work from Suryavinayak to Dhulikhel has intensified since the last month, some problems have been observed in the traffic operation due to the lack of bridges over the Jagati Khola, Mahadevkhola and Punyamata Khola under the highway. Due to the fact that cargo vehicles operate at night in those places, there are potholes and traffic jams at the bridge construction site.
