Chief District Officer Parashuram Pokharel informed that heavy snow has been falling in Lomanthang and Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality since Friday night. Waragung Mukti Kshetra Rural Municipality-3 from Chusang to the lower areas has been continuously raining since Friday night.
Due to heavy snowfall and rain, the administration has requested the tourists who are visiting Mustang, the general public and the container drivers who have reached Korla to transport goods to take safety precautions.
According to the Border Out Post (BOP) of the Armed Police Force at Lomanthang Rural Municipality-4 Nhechung, two to three feet of snow has accumulated in the Korla Pass on the Nepal-China border and the surrounding areas.
According to Chief Armed Police Inspector Prakash Dhital of BOP, the movement of vehicles and tourists on the road towards Korla has been stopped due to increased risk due to snowfall. Containers and electric vehicles that have passed the customs check and go from Nhechung to Korla Naka and from Nhechung to Jomsom have also been asked not to move.
Armed Police Inspector Dhital said that Nepal-China border trade and export-immigration transactions have been requested not to operate until the weather becomes normal. Chairman of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, Tusi Gurung, said that the heavy snowfall that started on Friday night is still continuing. This is the first time that it has snowed so heavily in the month of October. Basti, Khark, Patan and high lake areas of Upper Mustang are covered with snow. He said that the life of the locals has been affected after the snowfall and the cold.
Meanwhile, the Jomsom-Korla road section has also been blocked due to rain. Ishwar Mahat, Information Officer of the District Police Office informed that traffic was blocked due to landslides in Gharapzhong Rural Municipality-4 Jomsom and Waragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-3 Chusang.
