Kathmandu. The Nepal Temporary Teachers and Staff Union has demanded that all temporary teachers and staff be immediately included in the contribution-based social security fund to ensure professional continuity.
In a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, the union demanded that all temporary teachers-employees including relief, contract, temporary, child development teachers and school staff working in public schools should be immediately included in the contribution-based social security fund to ensure professional continuity.
They are demanding that they should be treated fairly on the basis of equal work by ensuring that they are entitled to leave, medical facilities, accident insurance, gratuity and other services as per the prevailing labor laws.
Likewise, union president Bishnu Khatri said that while respecting the contribution and experience of temporary teachers-employees who have been serving for a long time, the necessary amendments should be made in the relevant laws to remove the age limit and provide them with the opportunity to participate in open competition.
He warned that if the government does not address their demands immediately, they will protest strongly. He said that if the authority of education is given to the local level, the quality of community education will deteriorate.
The union has also demanded to implement a clear, just and long-term policy by making necessary amendments to the Federal Education Act, regulations and related laws in order to address the problems of teachers and employees of a temporary nature, contracts and other temporary nature, and has requested to ensure the protection of professional rights and interests of temporary teachers and employees, collective bargaining, organization expansion and trade union rights.
