Gaza. Palestinian access to more than 70 percent of Gaza has been restricted due to Israeli military control and restrictions. According to the Gaza Center for Human Rights, the area that can be used for housing and shelter has shrunk to about 15 percent of Gaza’s total land area.

According to the center, the Israeli army has increased the border of the area under its control towards the west. In addition, shelling, firing, and demolition of buildings and structures are forcing Palestinians to move out of densely populated areas.

The total area of Gaza is 365 square kilometers. According to the Center, the land available for housing and shelter is very limited considering the destroyed areas and the lack of basic services. The center said that the repeated displacement, lack of shelter and restrictions on reconstruction have increased the difficulties of the citizens and prevented them from returning home safely.

The Center said these activities raised concerns about violations of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The Article prohibits the forcible transfer of protected persons from occupied territories except in limited circumstances.

The center has asked the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, which played a role in maintaining the ceasefire, to stop further expansion of the area controlled by the Israeli army, protect the civilians and help in the reconstruction of Gaza. In addition, he also called to ensure that displaced Palestinians can return to their homes safely and voluntarily. -QNA
