Bangkok. After heavy rains, floods have occurred in all three districts of Thailand’s southern island province of Phuket. Various areas, including the capital city of Phuket, have been affected by the floods, and around 100 families are in trouble. According to officials, there are no reports of human casualties due to the flood.
Provincial Deputy Governor Romdan Hiaway said that the floodwaters, which came after heavy rains on Monday night, started receding by late Monday morning, but some low-lying areas were still inundated. He asked small vehicles to stay away from flood affected areas.
According to him, landslides have occurred in some parts of the province. Officials are working to prevent mud and stones from the landslide from reaching the canal and blocking the waterway.
In the public photos and videos on social media, it is seen that the flood water has entered the residential area and the roads have been flooded and traffic has been blocked. Some vehicles were partially buried in the mud and rocks washed away by the flood.
The Meteorological Department of Thailand has warned of heavy and continuous rain in the southern region until Wednesday. According to the department, this may cause more sudden floods and landslides.
According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, floods have occurred in various parts of Thailand since mid-September. As of Monday, at least 83 people have died due to the floods. At the end of September, the capital Bangkok was also flooded due to heavy rains that fell for a few days. As a result, thousands of people had to be moved to safe places and there was a serious disruption in people’s lives. -ap
