Calicut. A fire broke out in a force vehicle that was running on Wednesday at Khadachakra-1 Manm of Kalikot under the Karnali Highway. The vehicle and all the belongings of the passengers were destroyed by the fire. 21 passengers including 3 children in the vehicle are safe.

The fire broke out after the engine overheated on the uphill climb of Bhe 1 B 4094 which was leaving from Surkhet for Nagm. After seeing smoke in the vehicle at 4 pm on Wednesday, the driver Chandradev Magar asked the passengers to get out.

According to Kalikot police chief DSP Him Bahadur Khatri, a team of 15 policemen from the district police office reached the spot with four fire extinguishers. He said that although efforts were made to extinguish the fire, the vehicle and passenger’s belongings could not be saved.

Bipin Shahi, an eyewitness from Manm, said that it was the first time he saw a fire in a moving vehicle. Khatri, a passenger from Surkhet, said that all the passengers got out after the driver informed them that the vehicle was on fire. He speculates that the engine may have overheated because the vehicle was driven at high speed.
