Kavrepalanchok. The Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office, Dhulikhel, has instructed the businessmen of Kavrepalanchok to keep raw materials used in making sweets, used oil or ghee, expiry date and price clearly visible in the shop.

The office gave this instruction after monitoring the sweet shops in the district headquarters Dhulikhel and Banepa, the major city. The head of the office, Manisha Chapagai, said that details of the main raw materials, oil or ghee used in the production of sweets, the date of consumption and the selling price have been instructed to be kept in the sock or counter of the sweets so that the customers can easily see them.

During the monitoring, the office has instructed the sweet businessmen to follow food hygiene standards. Chapagai said that businessmen have been warned not to use synthetic food colors in sweets prepared by frying or cooking, not to use printed paper and newspapers to pack food items such as sweets, and not to use the same oil repeatedly to fry food items. In addition, the office has also instructed to comply with the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081.

Such an arrangement has been made with the aim of providing clear information to consumers about the ingredients and prices used in sweets and maintaining food hygiene and quality. It is expected that this will provide an opportunity to the consumers to make a purchase with information about the quality, ingredients and price of the sweets they are going to buy. During Tihar and Chhath Parva, the consumption of sweets is more than other times.
