Kathmandu. Liverpool defeated Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shoot-out and set a trip to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday. Defending champions City also won the tiebreaker against Brighton.
Liverpool won the tiebreaker 6-5 after the match ended in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. City and Brighton initially drew 2-2 at the Etihad.
In the subsequent tiebreaker, the score was 4-3. Crystal Palace beat Fulham 1-0, Sunderland beat Brentford 3-2 and Bournemouth beat Aston Villa 3-0 in other matches to enter the quarterfinals.
Now Liverpool will face Bournemouth, Palace will face Sunderland and City will face Bradford City in the quarterfinals. Fleetwood Town will play against either Everton or Newcastle.
