Kathmandu. While it is being announced to create employment opportunities in the country, to bring back those abroad and to create an investment environment, the number of Nepalese who have taken work permits to go abroad has increased.

The previous government had declared the internal employment promotion decade from 2025 to 2035 on February 27, 2081 with the aim of giving opportunities to the youth in the country. It has been almost 2 years since former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced the Decade of Internal Employment Promotion. However, the number of people who take work permit for foreign employment is high.

According to the Foreign Employment Department, in the first three months of the current financial year, more than 200,000 people have received work permits. This is 3,532 more than the same period of the previous financial year.

According to the foreign employment department, in July, August and October of the current financial year, a total of 2,400,248 people have taken work permits for foreign employment. In the same period of the previous financial year 2082/083, such a number was 2 lakh 716.

The government has been making a commitment to stop the migration of young manpower abroad, to expand employment opportunities in the country and to create an environment for Nepalis living abroad to return to work in the country. However, the available data shows that in the first three months of the current financial year, the number of people taking work permits for foreign employment has increased compared to the previous year.

More than 73,000 people took labor permits in October According to the department, only in October 2083, 73,765 people took labor permits for foreign employment. Out of which 63 thousand 377 are men and 10 thousand 388 are women.

In October last year, a total of 64,634 people, including 56,625 men and 8,09 women, had taken work permits. In this way, compared to last year’s October, the number of people who took labor permits increased by 9 thousand 131 in October this year.

According to the monthly details, 70 thousand 441 people took work permits in July of the current financial year. Although this number decreased to 60,042 in August, it increased again to 73,765 in October.

Similarly, in July of the previous financial year, 68 thousand 110 people and 67 thousand 972 people took work permit in August. This shows that the number increased in July and October of the current financial year compared to the same month of the previous year, but decreased in August.

The number is more than two years ago. According to the details of the Foreign Employment Department, in the first three months of the financial year 2081/082, 170,591 people took work permits to work abroad.

Compared to this, the number of people who took labor permits in the first three months of the current financial year is 33 thousand 657 more. In other words, compared to the same period two years ago, the number of people taking labor permits increased by 19.7 percent in the first three months of the current financial year.

This shows that compared to the last two years, the number of people taking work permits for foreign employment is higher.

A large number of young people from Nepal are going to work abroad. Not getting enough jobs in the country, looking for income opportunities and improving the financial condition of the family are among the main reasons for Nepalese to choose foreign employment.

The current government led by Balen Shah promised to stop the exodus of young people abroad, to bring back Nepalis abroad, to expand employment opportunities and to create an investment-friendly environment.
