Kyiv. SpaceX’s satellite communication network Starlink, which is considered important for the Ukrainian military, has said that the connection has been stabilized again in Ukraine. This statement of the government of Ukraine has come at a time when tensions with Washington have been increasing over the issue of Starlink service.

Struggling to defend itself against Russian missile and drone attacks, Ukraine has been relying on the civilian Starlink satellite communications system as well as the military version of StarShield.

Defense Minister Yevgeny Khamara said in a statement that surveillance systems showed improvements in the speed of Starlink and Starshield. According to him, speeds of more than 400 km per hour have been recorded in these systems and communication has been stable.

He said that this achievement is especially important for frontline soldiers, drone operation, logistics management and communication. The Starlink network has been at the center of the dispute between Ukraine and the United States.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Washington of helping Russia. According to him, Ukraine’s military response has been weakened by not giving Kiev advance notice of Russian missile attacks and limiting the speed of Starlink.

Defense Minister Khamara praised President Zelensky’s “firm stand” on this matter and said that positive results are beginning to be seen.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would talk to SpaceX chief and technology entrepreneur Elon Musk if Kiev was having problems with its communications system. Earlier on Thursday, Trump said that Musk had restored access to Starlink.

Since Russia’s attack on Ukraine in 2022, Musk has repeatedly changed his views on Ukraine. However, he has been claiming that SpaceX is not responsible for the interruption of communication services and that it is the responsibility of the US government. -AFP
